Another in my Desert Grass series, this piece explores the impressions made by little patches of bunch grass in a desert landscape that was mostly bare. The wind would whip that grass around in wild gyrations. Everything gets worn down by the wind, even adobe. Life in the desert can be harsh but the grass persists at least in this bunch grass form.

I've been exploring the use of photography for abstract expressionism and in particular keep returning to the very few plants I was attracted to in the desert as a starting place. I call the pieces in this series "Graffiti Grass" because I've layered either the shadow or light of more than one image of grass over a crumbling adobe wall. It's like street art using the natural effects of sun, shadow and wind instead of paint.

My mother was an artist and my earliest inspiration. We went to galleries and art museums throughout my childhood, and I was encouraged to create art in every medium and genre I was interested in.
